What Is Famanon?

Families Anonymous is a world-wide fellowship of family members and friends who have been affected by another's abuse of mind-altering substances or related behavioural problems. It has groups, which grow throughout the whole nation and meet frequently. Even if the issue is only suspected, any worried individual is stimulated to attend these gatherings.

In 1971, Fam Anon was established by groups of families living in America. 1980 marked the formation of the first group in London spearheading creation of 50+ groups with common goal in different parts of the country.

12 Steps and 12 Traditions, first used by Alcoholic Anonymous, are the basis of the self-help society, the Fellowship and its programme.

How Can It Help?

The group's goal is to support families and friends of persons with the present, potential or past drug related issues by offering mutual support and a place to share experiences and concerns. Group members learn how to adjust, cope, encourage and support loved ones under the influence of addiction.

Experience has shown that help for the drug-dependent person means help for the family and friends.

Embracing a straight and unwavering approach with the addict is what members learn when they attend these gatherings. Him/her realised that he/she needs help to live without drugs.

In the FamAnon meetings, participants learn how to live with the issues that are disturbing their lives.

Members adopt an honest and consistent approach towards the addict by attending meeting. As a result of this, drug abusers often decide to search for help as they start to want to live drug-free life.
